CCG to continue process of retaining GP services
In Coventry there are currently a number of General Practices which are procured through an Alternative Provider Medical Services Contract. These contracts are time-limited, and we have four practices whose current contracts will expire on March 2020. These practices are:
· Stoke Aldermoor Surgery
· Foleshill Surgery
· Broad Lane Surgery
· City of Coventry Healthcare Centre
Following a period of engagement and assessment, the CCG has taken the decision to undertake market engagement with local providers. This market engagement is to understand if there are potential providers in the area who would like to take on these contracts. If this engagement is successful, the CCG will undertake to re-procure these contracts.
Jenni Northcote, Chief Strategy and Primary Care Officer for Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group said
“We are committed to ensuring that all our patients have access to high-quality general medical care. As part of our initial work to understand what our local populations in the area needed, we heard from over one hundred patients from the four practices. One of the things that they told us was that having GP services which are easy to access is important to them, and this formed part of our decision to go ahead and continue the process of retaining service delivery in the area.”
The CCG has also set up an area of the website to keep patients informed and answer questions which they may have. This can be found at https://www.coventryrugbyccg.nhs.uk/Get-involved/Our-engagement-and-consultations/GP-Services
More information on local GP practices and services can be found on the NHS Choices website: www.nhs.uk

The CCG is not able to just give the contract to the same providers, as, when a decision is taken to re-procure the contract, the CCG has a legal obligation to offer the opportunity for the contract to other potential Providers who may wish to bid on it. This helps us to ensure that the services continue to improve and offer the right clinical support for patient needs. The current GP contract holder will have the opportunity to bid for the available contracts if they wish to.
